Repeat

From a few years back.

--------------------------------
A Song from the Heart

sons and daughters of the most high, may his love and mercy be yet a cover unto you, until the time has come when you rest your heads 'gainst the bosom of your redeemer. for he has given all for you, by his sweat and blood. for your sake he contains his wrath, but for a time, until it will be poured out upon his enemies. and you will approve judgement over those angels which have been persecutors unto you. and the song of victory and of the lamb you will sing, and be adorned more beautifully than the lilies. for this were you created. for this chosen and sealed from before creation. his own. his beloved, who desire him, and for whom all things are performed.

arise, you daughters. cry out, you sons. call unto the lord that he will make haste. give account unto him who created the stars in heaven that you might have but a glimpse of the splendors that await you, when the veil shall be removed and you shall see colors more splendid than all the jewels of earth and you will walk amidst them and upon them. his beloved, who desire him, and for whom all things are created so that he may delight in your pleasure, and you in his, forever.

Philippians 4:8

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Forgotten Doll

There's a child's doll in the yard across the street. I've looked over, on more than one ocassion, the last few days. It's raining today and still noone has remembered to go out and bring her back inside.

Why is it that seemingly insignificant things like this can tug at us so? Why do they create in us such pondering, as if the asnwer to a secret might be hidden there, in a doll laying on the grass in the rain?

The Language or the Kiss

i don't know if it was real or in a dream
lately waking up i'm not sure where i've been
there was a table set for six and five were there
i stood outside and kept my eyes upon that empty chair
and there was steam on the windows from the kitchen
laughter like a language i once spoke with ease
but i'm made mute by the virtue of decision
and i choose most of your life goes on without me
oh the fear i've known
that i might reap the praise of strangers
and end up on my own
all i've sown was a song but maybe i was wrong

i said to you the one gift which i'd adore
the package of the next 10 years unfolding
but you told me if i had my way i'd be bored
right then i knew i loved you best born of your scolding
when we last talked we were lying on our backs
looking at the sky through the ceiling
i used to lie like that alone out on the driveway
trying to read the greek upon the stars
the alphabet of feeling
oh i knew back then
it was a calling that said if joy then pain
the sound of the voice these years later
is still the same

i am alone in a hotel room tonight
i squeeze the sky out but there's not a star appears
begin my studies with this paper and this pencil
and i'm working through the grammar of my fears
oh mercy what i won't give
to have the things that mean the most
not to mean the things i miss
unforgiving the choice still is
the language or the kiss

What Shall I Take

What shall I take with me to forever

I could take time
What would be the best thing
Maybe I'll take forever
Should I take the warmth of a friend
The smile of a love
But first I shall find them
Will I pack a happy ending
And place it in my satchel
Or fold up a memory to fit in a pocket
Will I take with me a poem
I could take two
What would be the brightest things
Maybe I'll find two

I don't remember what I brought here

I could have come with nothing
Maybe I came with the best things
Maybe I came with forever
Did I bring the warmth of a friend
The smile of a love
If so I must have lost them
Did I pack a happy ending
And bring it in my satchel
Or a folded memory tucked into my pocket
Did I bring a poem
Maybe I brought two
What were those brightest things
I brought with me from forever

"Time"

Alan Parsons Project

Lyrics:

Time flowing like a river, Time beckoning me.

Who knows when we shall meet again, if ever
But time, keeps flowing like a river, to the sea.
Goodbye my love, maybe for forever.
Goodbye my love, the tide waits for me.
Who knows when we shall meet again, if ever.
But time, keeps flowing like a river... on and on,
to the sea.... to the sea...
Till its gone forever... gone forever...
Gone forever... Ahhhhhhh
Goodbye my friend, maybe for forever.
Goodbye my friend, who knows when we shall meet again.
The stars wait for me.
Who knows when we shall meet again, if ever
But time... keeps flowing like a river..
To the sea... to the sea...
Till its gone forever... gone forever...
Gone forever... Ahhhhhhh
Forever more!!
Forever more!!
Forever more!!

In His Wanting

Ignoring the implications of that which is greater than itself, there are those who reach only for the poverty of shadows, never realizing that if the universe has failed to meet its obligations, truest desire is left lacking.

In reality, it is from the outer world we few travel; following paths that lead to the inner and back again to the point of our beginning.

From beginning, love. From love, light. And it is this light that makes the seeing of things possible. So we may see that it is by passion all things were created.

The passion of He who found not His lover, and thereby, in His wanting, created her and seeks her perfection, in order to draw unto Himself that in which He delights and in her returning.

The Timelessness Inside

Inside, there is timelessness. A place where questions have resided since before the answers were conceived. Composed long before I breathed a first breath.

When I first inhaled this foreign substance, I knew its strangeness. Before, the wordlessness was far more comprehensible.

Life can seem so like making solid a thing which should, by nature, remain fluid. As if building a wall around the sky?

Within are secret questions, born before their corresponding inquiries. So it is with the few of us who are here. We are as water turned to stone or mountains that have not yet risen.

That Dream You Had

slipping out between the bars
like some spinning stars
like some crashing cars
and the dream you had shook some things up

working on some eloquence
and though a bit intense
it's only common sense
cause the dream you had shook some things up

lay it on the table there
though it seems a little bare
I surely do declare
that dream you had it shook some things up

"Dreams"
The Cranberries

Oh, my life is changing everyday,

In every possible way.

And oh, my dreams, it's never quite as it seems,
Never quite as it seems.

I know I've felt like this before, but now I'm feeling it even more,

Because it came from you.
And then I open up and see the person falling here is me,
A different way to be.

Ah, la da ah...

La...

I want more impossible to ignore,

Impossible to ignore.
And they'll come true, impossible not to do,
Impossible not to do.

And now I tell you openly, you have my heart so don't hurt me.

You're what I couldn't find.
A totally amazing mind, so understanding and so kind;
You're everything to me.

Oh, my life,

Is changing every day,
In every possible way.

And oh, my dreams,

It's never quite as it seems,
'Cause you're a dream to me,
Dream to me.

Ah, da, da da da, da, la...

This Madness

This is reworked piece I wrote a few years back.

Lead Me In This Madness

Grant me what I cannot hold
for its revealing intoxicates.
With your breath you have spun me,
tossed me toward this dusted bowl
from sheer heights, only
to bid me climb once more
these perilous peaks.
Left weary and restless,
I hear your words,
though known, unknown.

I strain to hold this offering,
willing to be hurled down
and then, again, climb higher still.
Lead me firmly in this madness.
Breathe that I might be spun and hurled.
Bid me come and I will come
and hear your words,
though known, unknown.

Speak to us of Love

In honor of Valentine's Day:

Then said Almitra, Speak to us of Love.

And he raised his head and looked upon
the people, and there fell a stillness upon
them. And with a great voice he said:

When love beckons to you, follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.

And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions
may wound you.

And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams
as the north wind lays waste the garden.

For even as love crowns you so shall he
crucify you. Even as he is for your growth
so is he for your pruning.

Even as he ascends to your height and
caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,
so shall he descend to your roots and
shake them in their clinging to the earth.

Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.
He threshes you to make you naked.
He sifts you to free you from your husks.

He grinds you to whiteness.

He kneads you until you are pliant;
and then he assigns you to his sacred fire,
that you may become sacred bread for God's sacred feast.

All these things shall love do unto you
that you may know the secrets of the heart,
and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life's heart.

But if in your fear you would seek only love's peace
and love's pleasure, then it is better for you
that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love's
threshing-floor, into the seasonless world where you
shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep,
but not all of your tears.

Love gives naught but itself
and takes naught but from itself.

Love possesses nor would it be possessed;
For love is sufficient unto love.

When you love you should not say "God is in my heart"
but rather, "I am in the heart of God."

And think not you can direct the course of love,
for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.

Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself.
But if you love and must needs have desires,
let these be your desires:

To melt and be like a running brook
that sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding
of love; and to bleed willingly and joyfully.

To wake at dawn with a winged heart
and give thanks for another day of loving.
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy.
To return home at eventide with gratitude.
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved
in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.

How Glorious

What wonderful things God has called us. We are Sons and Daughters, Brethren, Princes and Princesses, Friends, Heirs, Jewels. Jewels in a crown of gold, to encircle the head that upon once laid a wreath of thorns. But the time is not yet come. The jewels are still rough stones. Stones that must be cut and shaped and polished, until they are brilliant and perfect.

Who am I to protest the ways in which I am polished and fitted to that crown?

From "Conclusion "

En excerpt from:
Henry David Thoreau, Walden, from "Conclusion "

I left the woods for as good a reason as I went there. Perhaps it seemed to me that I had several more lives to live, and could not spare any more time for that one. It is remarkable how easily and insensibly we fall into a particular route, and make a beaten track for ourselves. I had not lived there a week before my feet wore a path from my door to the pond-side; and though it is five or six years since I trod it, it is still quite distinct. It is true, I fear, that others may have fallen into it, and so helped to keep it open. The surface of the earth is soft and impressible by the feet of men; and so with the paths which the mind travels. How worn and dusty, then, must be the highways of the world, how deep the ruts of tradition and conformity! I did not wish to take a cabin passage, but rather to go before the mast and on the deck of the world, for there I could best see the moonlight amid the mountains. I do not wish to go below now.

I think perhaps Thoreau would have appreciated this song.

Society
Eddie Vedder

Lyrics:

It's a mystery to me
we have a greed
with which we have agreed

You think you have to want
more than you need
until you have it all you won't be free

Society, you're a crazy breed
I hope you're not lonely without me

When you want more than you have
you think you need
and when you think more than you want
your thoughts begin to bleed

I think I need to find a bigger place
'cos when you have more than you think
you need more space

Society, you're a crazy breed
I hope you're not lonely without me
Society, crazy and deep
I hope you're not lonely without me

There's those thinking more or less less is more
but if less is more how you're keeping score?
Means for every point you make
your level drops
kinda like it's starting from the top
you can't do that...

Society, you're a crazy breed
I hope you're not lonely without me
Society, crazy and deep
I hope you're not lonely without me

Society, have mercy on me
I hope you're not angry if I disagree
Society, crazy and deep
I hope you're not lonely without me

Seagull

I love this song.

Seagull
Bad Company

Lyrics:

mm mm mm mm mm mm mmm

Seagull you fly across the horizon
into the misty morning sun
nobody asked you where you are goin
nobody knows where you're from

Here is a man asking the question
is this really the end of the world
seagull you must of known for a long time
the shape of things to come

Now you fly through the sky
never asking why
and you fly, all around
till somebody shoots you down

Dadadada da da da down mm mm mm mm mm mm
Seagull you fly across the horizon
into the misty morning sun
nobody asked you where you are going
nobody knows where you're from
Now you fly through the sky
never asking why
and you fly all around
till somebody shoots you down

mm mm yeah
Seagull you fly, seagull you fly away
and you'll fly away, today
and you'll fly away, tomorrow
and you'll fly away, leave me to my sorrow

mm mm mm
Seagull go on and fly mm mm mm
fly to your tomorrow, leave me to my sorrow
fly

A Love Symphony

I read a poem by Arthur William Edgar O'Shaughnessy on another blog which prompted me to search out other of his poems. This one struck me this morning as being particularly nice. Hope you enjoy it.

A Love Symphony

Along the garden ways just now
I heard the flowers speak;
The white rose told me of your brow,
The red rose of your cheek;
The lily of your bended head,
The bindweed of your hair:
Each looked its loveliest and said
You were more fair.

I went into the wood anon,
And heard the wild birds sing
How sweet you were; they warbled on,
Piped, trilled the self-same thing.
Thrush, blackbird, linnet, without pause,
The burden did repeat,
And still began again because
You were more sweet.

And then I went down to the sea,
And heard it murmuring too,
Part of an ancient mystery,
All made of me and you.
How many a thousand years ago
I loved, and you were sweet—
Longer I could not stay, and so
I fled back to your feet.

Happiness

Everyone's life story has a happiest chapter - a moment or series of moments in which is found the deepest contentment, bliss and spiritual awareness. It is in that moment that we may glimpse our truest eternal self.

Thought for the Day

If you like where you are,
don't regret where you've been.
Because you wouldn't be where you are today
without having been where you were.
